The Sheep Creek Arts Council executive and board members hope everyone has had a nice summer and is looking forward to new learning and creating. With fall upon us, it is time for our fall registration on Sept. 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Our Thanksgiving dinner will be held on Oct. 2, it will be a catered affair and tickets are available for $20 for members only. There will be a silent auction in conjunction with this event and you may begin bringing your donations between Sept.

The community-wide curb side recycling and organics collection program became quite controversial. The respectful input received from people both for and against have brought about changes that improve the overall program.

Our first general meeting of the fall season was, as usual, attended by the faithful few. The main discussion was about having a door installed on the west side so that the courtyard could be viewed and enjoyed.

While cruising the deodorant aisle of a drug store, a label boldly proclaiming “No Aluminum Chlorohydrate” and proudly displaying the pink ribbon used in the fight against breast cancer stopped me in my tracks. “What the…,” I thought to myself.

It is hard getting tuned in that first day of school. Although it wasn’t officially the first day of school back on some date in 1967, it was my first day at then Hale Elementary School in Pasadena, California.

You’ve probably heard of the Masters golf tournament. It’s the one where the champion wins a blazer that’s the colour of turf. Today, August 24, there is a mini-Masters at the Crystal Ridge Golf Course.

Don’t miss the opportunity to take in the Highland Games on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Howard Park, which is near the Foothills Composite High School. The gates open at 7 a.m. and the cost is $10 or $30 for a family pass.

The Olympics are always inspirational and awe-inspiring, and the 2016 games in Rio didn’t disappoint..
