Have you ever heard the term “fake news”? This is when someone fabricates a story about something and uses the internet and social media to promote the story to mislead readers.

The Sheep Creek Arts Council is having its open house and registration day on Thursday, Jan. 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come and see the clubs and classes offered this winter/spring session and sign up. Also, memberships are due to be renewed.

The New Year’s Eve celebration at the Flare n’ Derrick was a huge success, although I’m told the number of attendees was only about half of last year. The weather was definitely a factor but the kids had so much fun in the snow.

We had 405 participants from all of the schools for the Okotoks Branch Royal Canadian Legion Literary and Poster competition. The schools are listed below and we welcome St. Francis of Assisi Academy who will be joining the challenge next year.

Joan, our librarian, and the board, wish you all a very Happy and Successful New Year! There are some exciting workshops lined up for January. On Jan. 4 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

We are mostly back to routine and that is fine by me. I am definitely a routine person. Other than floor curling and the exercise group, all activities are back on track. Floor curling resumes on Jan. 9 and exercise on Jan. 10.

The year that was 2016 is history and we have turned the calendar page to 2017. Time is like a shark; it can only go forward and never backward. In the spirit of looking forward, here are my 2017 predictions: 1.

Three times during the holidays, as we were out and about in town, I was directed to stop in specific locations on the hunt for Pokemon. “Hurry, this guy disappears after like 10 minutes, we need to get to the library now!” I don’t play.

Looking back over the past year I would have to say that 2016 was a year of extremes. I think back to how extremely exciting it was when Okotoks was in the Top 10 communities competing to be named Kraft Hockeyville.

After going full speed ahead the last few weeks, it feels as if something is missing this week.
