Bill was born in Cornwall Ontario on
July 2, 1930, to Robert Blevings
McConkey and Sarah Stuart McConkey
(nee McMaster). He was a career Royal
Canadian Air Force Officer, with 38 years
of service. He had many interesting stories
to tell about his time in Europe and on
deployment to North Africa early in his
military career. After retirement, Bill and
Lucille moved to Okotoks, Alberta where
they transitioned easily into civilian life.
Bill enjoyed volunteering for many
community projects at the Calgary Aviation
Museum and local parks in Okotoks and
the surrounding area. He was a member
of the Okotoks Fish and Game Association,
Okotoks Seniors Centre, and the Legion.
He was a skilled wood and metal worker.
He made many beautiful furniture pieces
and restored a classic car together with
his son. Every project was completed with
perfection in mind.
He loved sports and played Hockey,
Lacrosse, Football, and Baseball growing
up in Cornwall, and took up Golfing and
Curling later in life. He loved hunting and
fishing with his brother-in-law Eugene Boll.
He loved spending time with family and
close friends.
A Celebration of life will be held at
Crystal Ridge Golf Club (9 Crystal Green
Lane, Okotoks) on September 5, 2022, at
1:00pm. Subsequent to the Celebration of
Life being held in Okotoks, there will be
an internment ceremony at a later date
to be held in Lancaster Ontario as per
Bill’s wishes.
