Mr. Jim Stevenson of the High River/Meadowbank area passed away peacefully at the High River Hospital on September 19, 2020 at the age of 72. Jim battled a rare kidney disease for over two years with strength, courage, determination and dignity.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 53 years, his daughter Leah (Darren)—granddaughters Cassidy and Maggie and his son Tom (Sandra)—granddaughter Mackenzie. Jim is also survived by his brother in laws Gary Moncrieff (Shirley), George Moncrieff (Linda), and Bruce Thurber and their families. Jim’s grandchildren were his special pride and joy! He was also very proud of his children and their spouses for their many accomplishments.

Jim is predeceased by his parents Art and Marie Stevenson and his sister Lois Thurber.

Jim was born in High River on June 14, 1948. After meeting Barb, living in Brant, Calgary and Didsbury, they finally settled SW of High River for over 40 years. Jim was full of life and will always be known for his sense of humour and loved to laugh and joke around. He was known to pull many a prank on friends and co-workers.

Jim spent many successful years in the car sales business. That is where he met and visited with many area residents. Jim received multiple sales awards during his career--they even travelled to Niagara Falls to receive one award. Jim and Barb were able to take many memorable trips, most notably the trip to Bruce Peninsula for their 50th wedding anniversary. They also enjoyed many cruises, trips to Maui and going to Kimberley every fall.

After retirement Jim and Barb moved into High River and enjoyed the relaxation and meeting new friends. Jim didn’t like to miss Wednesday morning coffee at the Legion or playing pool and visiting at the High River Club.

Jim’s first love was his family but his second love was his animals. There were numerous four-legged friends that were lucky enough to call his place their home. He spent many years cattle penning and sorting but also enjoyed trail riding in the Kananaskis or just riding and enjoying the beautiful outdoors.

Jim lived life to the fullest and did not let the kidney disease define him. Everyday was a good day he would always say!! He did it his way!!

A private family graveside service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s name to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Please visit www.kidney.ca. To send condolences and view Jim’s Tribute Page, visit www.lylereeves.com. Caring for the family is Lyle Reeves Funerals of High River (Craig Snodgrass) 403-652-4242.
