It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jessie Adams on December 7, 2020 at the age of 90 years.

Jessie Adams was born in Calgary, the fourth child of Kate and Jim Brown. Her first home was their farm in the De Winton area. The family moved to Turner Valley and that is where Jessie spent her childhood.

A child of the depression but not depressed. She was a positive, cheerful person. Dementia stole so many things from her but it never took away her beautiful smile.

Jessie and Tom Adams were married in 1948 and together they moved their skid shack around the Leduc area oil patch. They added three children: Tom Junior, Leslie and Gwen during those years. David was the first of three children born to the couple when they returned to the Foothills in the Priddis district. Dan and Tim were born later.

Jessie above all else was a wife and a mother. She was a homemaker for her family and all the relatives and friends who wanted or needed a bit of extra “Mothering”. She insisted on feeding every person who stepped foot into her kitchen. No matter if it was a first time visitor or a long time friend, people always left feeling like they were a part of her immediate family. Her baking skills were legendary and it’s true that she helped visitors fill their pockets with cinnamon twists on their way out the door. No one ever left Jessie’s house feeling hungry.

Many people who needed a port in the storm of life found care and comfort in Jessie’s home. Some stayed their whole life, some stayed for days or months or years. When Jessie got up in the morning she would count the pairs of shoes at the back door and she would know how many people would be sitting down for breakfast that day.

The Priddis Community received their share of Jessie’s cooking expertise. She also excelled at volunteer recruitment. People just couldn’t say no when Jessie asked for their help. Pancake breakfast or turkey supper she organized hundreds of volunteers and washed a mountain of dishes enjoying every minute.

Side by side with Tom, Jessie worked diligently helping to start Meota Gas Co-op and providing tea and goodies to anyone who came to Meota’s “Kitchen Table” office in their home. As the Co-op grew she took on a paid position handling some of the billing and collection facets of the business. Her firm but kind approach of collecting overdue accounts gave her an almost perfect collection record.

She found the goodness in everyone. She will be missed by a huge extended family and is survived by her six children and their families.

If you wish to make a memorial tribute please support a food bank or local community association. Those were the causes that she supported all her life.

A celebration of life will be held at later date.
