Jimmy (Bearcat) Murray passed away
June 14, 2022 at the Rockyview General Hospital
with family by his side. He is forever remembered
by his loving wife Shirley (nee: Szekeres) and
their sons: Allan (Renae Koch) and her daughters
Breanna, Janelle; and Danny (Michele), his
grandsons James, Jesse, and Spencer.

Extended family includes Peggy Proudfoot and
her daughters Jennifer and Jocelyn; Bill McLean
(Nyree) and their son Anthony; Wendy McLean
(John Fawcett); Nancy Murray and her daughters
Kelly (Dan) and Stephanie (son Norman);
Tanis Murray and her daughter Rachel (Clint)
and their daughters MacKenzie and Maddison
and god-son Cory Millette. Jim was predeceased
by his parents Allan and Isabel Murray, siblings:
Annabelle McLean, Norman and Donald. Jim and
Shirley married nearly sixty-five years ago in
Estevan, SK and thereafter soon started a family.
They lived in Calgary for thirty-two years, finally
settling in Okotoks where they resided for the
last twenty-six years.

Jim was happiest living in his home just outside
town and practicing golf in the 'back 40'.
Jim is most well-known for his
legendary career as an Athletic Trainer for the
Calgary Flames. He had an outstanding career
and was fortunate to be a part of many charities
and events, where he was always found with a
smile on his face and an enthusiastic willingness
to help out. After retiring from The Calgary Flames
he became an avid public speaker, auctioneer, and
spokesperson well known in the community. As far
as he travelled and as wide as his celebrity status
followed him, he never forgot his simple upbringing
and did not lose sight of his love for family. His
grandsons were his pride and joy. He loved golf,
fishing, skiing, camping, music, dancing and often
you would hear him letting out a loud yodel, or a
loud “yip”. Jim Murray, the legend, larger than life,
the ‘ol potlicker from Okotoks.

A Memorial Service will be held at the
Foothills Centennial Centre,
4-204 Community Way, Okotoks, on Wednesday,
June 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Marilyn Evans
officiating. Jim will be laid to rest at Okotoks Union
Cemetery at a later date.

“May the winds of heaven
Blow Softly…
And whisper in your ear
How much we love and miss you
And wish that you were here”

The family wishes to thank Snodgrass Funeral
