January 29, 1948 – Edmonton, Alberta
June 1, 2023 – Okotoks, Alberta

Grace Maciejewski, beloved wife for 49 years to her late husband Ted Maciejewski, of Black Diamond, AB, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Foothills Country Hospice at the age of 75 years.

Grace was born in Edmonton, AB, to parents Fred and Velma Melnyk on January 29, 1948.   After graduation she worked in Alberta for a period before meeting her husband, Ted Maciejewski.  They were married June 5, 1971.  The two settled in Radium Hot Springs for several years, where they helped run Ted’s family’s business, the ‘Gina Motel.’  After it was sold, Grace and Ted worked together building cedar homes in the Kootenay Valley, while also being blessed with the birth of their first child, Michele.  Their final move brought them to permanently settle in Black Diamond, AB, where they helped run Grace’s parents’ family business, the Black Diamond Hotel.  Soon after, Grace was blessed a second time with the birth of her son Jason.

Grace spent time as a great homemaker, but soon returned to the work force for Fluters Oilfield Construction, where she remained for many happy years, until the unfortunate passing of the owner.  Her final work endeavor was as a Canada Post employee until 2021, where she had one of the largest delivery routes in Okotoks, and she loved it.

Grace was an avid crossword puzzle genius.  She loved spending time with her children, and anyone else who needed her.  She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, fishing with the family, gardening and her epic Ukrainian cooking.  Her love for animals was great, but not comparable to her love for music and dancing…always dancing.  She was a brave woman, trying almost anything once, even swimming with the dolphins at age 69.  Her most memorable and treasured vacation was to Cuba with her family in 2017…Cuba will miss her greatly!

Grace was always a hard worker with a heart of gold and a beautiful peaceful presence.  She was an amazing Mother to all who knew her!  Her kindness and patient personality were unmatched.  She lent her heart to many thankful souls over the years and will never be forgotten.  Now you can dance forever Mom…we will miss you every day, now and forever.

Grace is survived by her loving children, son Jason Maciejewski of Black Diamond, AB; daughter Michele and her spouse Cory Taylor of Okotoks, AB; two brothers and sister-in-law, Edward Melnyk of Calgary, AB, and Leonard and Twila Melnyk of Kelowna, BC; in-laws Zygmont and Gail Majeski of Calgary, AB; and John & Mary Maciejewski of Seattle, WA.

Grace was sadly predeceased by her husband Ted Maciejewski; sister-in-law Susan Melnyk; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill & Gina Vlaanderen, and Maryan and Sheila Maciejewski; and mother and stepfather Velma and Bill Paulencu (pops), and her father Fred Melnyk.

Funeral Services and Reception will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.MHFH.com, which the family greatly encourages; any flowers may be sent directly to the funeral home on the morning of June 24th, or the day prior to the service (June 23).
