Gordon Paul Kunz passed away peacefully on Wed. August 10, 2022, at
the Age Care Seton in Calgary three days prior to his 89th Birthday. He
is survived by Florence, his wife of 64 years, daughter Laurie Lutes of
Okotoks and son David (Kate) of Bragg Creek, two grandchildren, Branden
(Katherine ) Chudleigh of Okotoks and Wyatt (Krystal) Lutes of Victoria,
one great grandchild Samantha Chudleigh, one sister, Betty Hogsett (Bill)
of Indianapolis, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.
Gordon was born in Lethbridge to the late Charles and Pearl (Wocknitz)
Kunz and was predeceased by his brother Roy (Loreen) Kunz of Lethbridge
and sister Rose (Bill) Allen of Calgary.
Gordon attended St. Joseph’s High School in Lethbridge. He worked
at International Harvester there prior to moving to Calgary where he
continued the majority of his career at International Harvester in the parts
department.
He was an excellent carpenter and spent many evenings doing home
improvements for others as a second job. After retirement Gordon and
Florence moved to West Kelowna, B.C. where he continued doing drywall
taping into his 80’s. He had an inventive mind and was a master at solving
problems by inventing the solution.
Gordon was always available for his family whether it be helping move,
paint a fence or build a deck, fix a car, come to the rescue by the road
side or fix a plumbing disaster. He was a wealth of practical information
and skills of which he also shared with Scouts Canada as a scout leader.
Affectionately known as “Pa” when he became a grandfather he was very
involved with his grandchildren and took great joy in seeing them grow.
Gord was a family man above all else and was thrilled to meet his great
granddaughter.
Gordon and Florence enjoyed many years of RVing on their own and
with family, traveling in western Canada and the U.S. and after 14 years
In Kelowna they returned to Alberta and spent 3 years at the Heartland
Retirement Center in Okotoks. There he enjoyed many activities including
art, exercise and participating in musical events. He was a member of the
Choir at Our lady of Lourdes Catholic Church when in Kelowna in which
he enthusiastically participated.
Gordon never met a stranger he didn’t like and kept in contact with prior
friends from school and work. He was always thankful for his friends and
especially for his loving family of whom he was very proud. Gordon will
be missed by many.
Memorial contributions can be made to Parkinson Association of Alberta.
Private memorial will be held for immediate family at a later date.
