Dorothy Jeanne Didow, resident of Grande Cache, AB, formerly of Rycroft, AB, and High River, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, in Grande Cache, at the age of 89 years.

Dorothy was born in High River to Slim and Nina Watrin on May 14, 1931. Dorothy attended secondary school at St. Mary’s Girls School in Calgary, AB. She became a nurse at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary and went on to achieve her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Louis University. She came back to teach nursing at the Holy Cross Hospital and then moved to take a position at the Holy Cross Hospital in Spirit River, AB. This is where she met her husband, Alex Didow. They were married on October 20, 1960, in Rycroft and started a family. In 1970 Alex, and Dorothy, and their four boys moved from Rycroft to Grande Cache, where they raised their family and had their fifth son, Phillip.

Dorothy dedicated her professional life to health care as a Registered Nurse in various capacities and locations throughout Alberta for almost 50 years. She was a member of the CWL (Catholic Women’s League). She also spent her time gardening and helping run Chalet Foods, the family-owned business for over 50 years. Dorothy’s unyielding belief in God and lifelong devotion to the Catholic Church may be what defined her the most outside of her home. She will mostly be remembered as a loving wife and a kind and caring mother of her five sons and their many friends.

Dorothy is forever loved and remembered by her five sons: Ronald James, Gregory Joseph (Gail Dupuis), Mark Alexander, Duane Edward (Krista), and Phillip Daniel (Jodie); her brother Father Clarence Watrin; nephew Danny Watrin; sisters in-law Vera Brown and Olga McNaughton; grandchildren: Sarah, Robyn, Scott, Samantha, Bret, and Mya; great-grandchildren: Will, Dane, Jordyn, Hannah, Nolan, Conor, Kayden, Brinley and Amara; and step-grandchildren: Kara, Nikki, Matthew, Alexis and Tyson.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years Alexander Didow in 2017; parents Clarence (Slim) Watrin in 1988 and Nina Watrin in 1994; and her brother Michael Anthony Joseph Watrin in 1996.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 1:00pm at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Grande Cache (10734 Shand Ave.).

Memorial donations may be made to the Grande Cache Hospital Foundation (Box 1202, Grande Cache, AB, T0E 0Y0).
