It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Allen Lyle Millan on Friday, November 20, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 81.

Allen will be forever loved and remembered by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty, his children Debbie (Mark), Mike (Kathie) and Tracie (Lorne), his grandchildren, Jeff, Tiffany, Austin, Leigh, Aaron and Daniel, as well as numerous siblings and extended family members.

Allen was born and raised on the family farm in McCreary, Manitoba. Allen moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1958 where he met the love of his life, Betty. They were married in 1962 and resided in Calgary until they moved to Okotoks in 1998.

In the beginning, Allen was a Truck Driver with CP Transport but his true passion was working with his hands and he was an extremely talented and skilled finishing carpenter. He owned and operated his own construction company for many years before he began working at Artistic Stairs where he worked for many years building custom railings until his retirement. He did not stay retired for very long before he began working at Dream West Homes where he continued to do finishing carpentry work until the cancer would no longer allow him to continue.

Allen was so full of life and love and had an amazing sense of humour that would always bring a smile to everyone around him. He was extremely loving, caring and compassionate to his family and friends. He approached life with nothing but grace and dignity regardless of what challenges he was facing and continued to have a positive outlook on life. His love for his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends was, as he always said, “his greatest blessings” and always ended every conversation with “Everyday is a precious gift, Enjoy your day, love you lots”.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the doctors and nursing staff at the High River Hospital for the excellent care provided and compassion shown to Allen and the family.

A private Graveside Service was held at Mountainview Memorial Gardens. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Allen please visit www.choicememorial.com

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to The High River Hospital.
