1922 - 2021

We are saddened by the departure of Alex from our lives, but our memories will live on. Alex was born August 13, 1922 in the Beaver Mines area and spent his youth growing up North of Lundbreck.

He was one of six children born to Alex and Mary Vishloff. He had two brothers: Bill and Fred and three sisters: Mary, Anne and Helen.

Alex was hard working, and from his early years had a knack to build large, profitable land holdings in the Cowley/Lundbreck area and then duplicated the formula in other locations in Southern Alberta. He was fair in all his dealings, and in many cases displayed generous acts.

His favourite hobby was singing in Russian, his ethnic language. He made a trip to Russia with a large, British Columbia choir celebrating the Centennial for the Doukhobor’s immigration to Canada which toured and performed throughout the land.

Alex was an excellent horseman, possessing skills in developing and breeding horses. He received guidance from his friend Max Gibb and was able to breed a Canadian Derby Champion. His cousin, Harry Salekin, was a financial partner in the horse. There were many other investments that Alex was a part off. Some were successful and others not.

On a final note, Alex was a great teacher and he had a good supply of nephews to work on those early land holdings and get an appreciation for farm education.
