An Okotoks native picked the ideal night to have one of the best games of his Heritage Junior B Hockey League career on the weekend. It just happened to be against his hometown team.

For the Okotoks Oilers, it was a long, strange and frustrating weekend trip to the north of the province. The Junior A hockey team was scheduled to play in two games before returning to Okotoks to prepare for a Sept.

Few anticipated games in sports live up to the hype, but the Okotoks high school football derby delivered excitement beyond the most ardent fans’ expectations.

Residents on the south side of Okotoks might now have a reason to look forward to getting outdoors this winter.

In a game that was a microcosm of the Foothills Lions’ season, the rugby club failed to capitalize off a strong first half and allowed a rival squad to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the latter stages of the game.
