Weekend entertainment guide for the Heritage Days long weekend

Provincials take flight in Okotoks

No fewer than three home teams will shoot for provincial glory as the Okotoks Dawgs Academy hosts the Baseball Alberta 15U 'AAA' Tier I provincial championship this weekend.

The Dawgs Black 15U are in Pool B alongside Camrose, Calgary and Parkland while Pool A has the Dawgs Red 15U, Dawgs 14U, St. Albert and Red Deer lock horns. On Friday, the Dawgs 14U battle St. Albert at noon and the Dawgs Red clash with Red Deer at 6 p.m. Dawgs Black open their schedule at noon on Saturday against Parkland.

The schedule for the playoff portion of the tournament is still to be determined and subject to change whether or not there are tiebreaker games in play.

Historical Walk

Join Okotoks historian Karen Peters on a free guided tour of some of the downtown’s less travelled streets while learning some early history of the area.

Art in the Foothills

Head on down to the picturesque Leighton Art Centre northeast of Millarville this weekend to view two art exhibits.

Vital Lines is a land-based installation conceived by two Calgary artists and is on display until Sept. 29. A Point on the Horizon features the work of several artist and remains on display until Aug. 4

Music to my ears

Calgary singer/songwriter Amy Bishop is returning to Okotoks for another night of entertainment and great music in a downtown coffee shop.

If you’re away this weekend and can’t make it, Bishop is sure to return or Okotoks or can be seen playing regularly at Ironwood Stage and Brill and The Blues Can in Calgary.
