Weapons charges for man who cut down tree in suspicious incident: Foothills RCMP

A 25-year-old man was arrested after cutting down a Heritage Isle resident's tree and putting it on the hood of a vehicle. 

The complainant called Foothills County RCMP Dec. 28 around 1:30 a.m. to tell them about the man's suspicious behaviour. 

Police were able to find Colton Emery Knowles of Calgary and he was arrested without any incident. 

He was charged with three counts of wilful damage to property and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Knowles has since been released and is set to appear in Okotoks Provincial Court on Feb. 11. 

Christmastime offence

Turner Valley RCMP is seeking information regarding an overnight incident Dec. 25 where an unknown suspect drove through a fence causing up to $8,000 in damages. 

More than 40 feet of the fence on Priddis Valley Road West was destroyed. 

Based on the pieces left behind at the scene, RCMP believe the suspect's vehicle is a Chrysler truck. 

"By law, anyone involved in a collisions is required to exchange information with other property owners if combined damage is over $2,000, a report to local police is required," RCMP said in an update. 

Anyone with information about the offence is urged to contact Turner Valley RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Police are seeking three men in a "distinct sporty red sedan" after they gained entry to the Red Deer Lake United Church on Dec. 28. The three were caught on surveillance camera after breaking a window around 1 a.m. Police continue to investigate and anyone with information is urged to contact the Turner Valley detachment. 

A search warrant executed on New Year's Eve uncovered several stolen vehicles and items. A Ford F-150, Mercedes Benz C240, Toyota Corolla and a utility trailer, all of which were reported stolen, were recovered. A man is now facing five counts of possession of property obtained by crime, forged documents and illegal government documents. A woman faces possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Both have since been released and are set to appear in Okotoks Provincial Court on Feb. 4. 

One man has been charged with assault after Foothills County RCMP responded to a complaint on Eden Valley First Nation on Dec. 25. The man is set to appear in Turner Valley Provincial Court on March 22.

Foothills RCMP were alerted of an erratic driver travelling northbound on Highway 2 on Christmas Eve. Reports from several callers said the driver was swerving all over the highway. While police were en route to the location, the vehicle failed to slow down or stop for another at the intersection of Dunbow Road and Hwy. 2A and the two collided at highway speed. Both drivers were taken to Calgary hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident is still under investigation. 

RCMP responded to a mischief complaint in Aldersyde Dec. 21 after video surveillance caught a suspect smashing a vehicle window and fleeing after the alarm sounded. The matter is still under investigation and charges are pending. 

A 42-year-old Turner Valley man had his licence suspended and car towed after Foothills County RCMP noticed signs of impairment in a traffic stop Dec. 20. Police were tipped off by callers reporting an erratic driver travelling on Highway 22. The driver was also slapped with a $243 ticket for following too close. 

An investigation into a Dec. 19 assault complaint in Eden Valley found two men were working on a vehicle when an altercation resulted in one being hit in the face with a wrench. The matter is still under investigation and charges are pending.
