The Town of Turner Valley is getting in touch with his residents and visitors with a new website and through social media for the first time this month

The Town revised its website to incorporate its rebranding with a focus on “Back to Nature” and long-term vision for future growth, launching the new look late last week along with new Facebook and Twitter accounts.

“I am very pleased with the final product, as I believe it meets the needs of our residents, businesses and visitors,” said Monique LeBlanc, the Town’s assistant chief administrative officer. “It has an updated design which reflects Turner Valley’s amazing location in the foothills and it is much easier to navigate than the old site, and which I hope will make it more convenient for users.”

The enhanced website features headings specific for residents, visitors and merchants, with links to town services, facilities, bylaws, news, notices, council agendas and minutes, and a section for coming events. It also contains eye-catching photographs of the area’s natural beauty and facilities.

“Because of the sheer volume of municipal information required, we wanted to ensure it was easy to find and access,” said LeBlanc. “For example, most of the application and permit forms are now updated to a common format and posted in an area that makes sense to the user. The colours and graphics reflect the new municipal brand, and more importantly, give it a fresh look representing our community.”

LeBlanc said information will also be posted on the Town’s new Facebook and Twitter pages to provide additional communication tools.

“We have not participated in social media in the past and incorporated them into our new communication plan,” she said. “Social media is now commonly used by municipalities to expand communications in response to public need.”

LeBlanc said the website was updated to enhance communication with the public and ensure the information presented meets the needs of residents, merchants and visitors.

She added that almost half of the website’s viewers are from the Calgary area.

“We hope visitors of the site will be pleased with the changes and find the experience to be enjoyable and useful to the point of wanting to revisit the site often,” she said.

The Town began work on the website in the spring of 2013, but it discontinued in the summer due to staff focus on flood recovery work. Work resumed this past summer.

The $11,000 cost to design and launch the website has been covered by the Alberta Innovation and Advanced Education Business Flood Recovery Grant.
