Turner Valley’s staff members are having some Christmas fun with families this month. The public works department challenged citizens of all ages to help elf, Peppermint Waffles, find 18 of his elf buddies and get them back to the North Pole before Christmas in what they call the Turner Valley Elf Search. Participants were tasked to find the elves, photograph them and post them on the Town’s Facebook and Twitter sites with the hashtag #turnevalleyelfsearch, said Monique LeBlanc, community service and business development manager. They also had to email the list of locations to [email protected] to be eligible to win a prize. “There’s been a number of people involved in putting this together, but primarily it was our public works staff that had been decorating the downtown area and wanting to make it a little bit more festival and fun,” said LeBlanc. “They came up with an idea to place some additional elves that they had as decorations to set up as part of a scavenger hunt.” The Turner Valley Elf Search began in early December and the deadline to submit photographs and emails was Dec. 18. Those who found the most elves will be entered into a random draw for a family prize package valued at $100, donated by various businesses “We received a couple of calls and some email messages and we’re starting to get some really cool pictures,” LeBlanc said. “We’re really happy that people are interested in this and having fun with it. It’s gained a lot of traction.” LeBlanc said some people made the elf search a competition between friends. “Friends are inviting other friends to come out and search with them and there’s been a few where people challenge their friends to find more than them, which adds to the excitement,” she said.
