Roads and recreation included in Diamond Valley's capital budget

Diamond Valley’s capital budget for 2024 was recently passed, with money earmarked for facility upgrades, road work and other projects. 

The $4.58-million capital budget was approved in January and most of the projects will be funded through grants and reserves, the Town said.

Among the highlights of the budget are equipment upgrades at the Dr. Lander Memorial Pool and a new refrigeration system at the Oilfields Arena. 

Also included is road construction along First Avenue, with new sidewalks, water lines and sewer lines.

Other budget items include upgrades to the Bailey Ridge lift station, backup generators at some Town facilities and, to improve traffic and pedestrian safety, radar speed signs and LED stop signs.

Approval of the capital budget follows the approval of the Town’s operating budget in December. 

The $14.2-million operating budget comes with a zero per cent tax increase for 2024, which the Town said was a significant achievement. 

Looking ahead, the Town is forecasting an operating budget of $15.6 million in 2025 and $16.1 million in 2026. 

Diamond Valley will approve this year’s property tax bylaw in the spring, which will include factors that impact property taxes such as requisitions and property assessments, the Town said.
