Turner Valley's off-leash dog park officially opened on Feb. 11, making it Diamond Valley's second dog park and the first opened after amalgamation.

Turner Valley now has its own off-leash dog park.

The park is located at the end of Turner Drive and is north of the Sheep River, offering a scenic spot for dogs and owners to frolic.

The park was approved by council in 2022 after years of deliberation and research prior to amalgamation.

As part of a recommendation for Turner Valley to develop a dog park, for residents and visitors, market research was conducted in 2016. According to the study, there were approximately 413 registered dogs and 775 dog owners in Turner Valley, with about 30 per cent of households having a dog.

A presentation by the Town of Turner Valley's pathways, parks and recreation advisory committee in 2022 subsequently identified that those statistics had increased to 532 licensed dogs in about 33 per cent of households, demonstrating increased demand for a dog park.

Turner Valley council unanimously approved the project in October of 2022, less than three months before Diamond Valley's amalgamation.

The park had a soft opening on Dec. 1, 2023, and was officially opened on Feb. 11. It measures at about 10 acres, including dedicated parking.

The location is now Diamond Valley's second off-leash dog park, with Black Diamond's being located at the end of 2nd Street NW.
