There will be no rushing to the registry office in January for residents of Turner Valley or Black Diamond.

The Province informed the towns that driver’s licences, vehicle registrations or Alberta identification cards do not need to be updated to show a Diamond Valley address immediately after amalgamation takes place on Jan. 1.

Instead, the town name can be changed at the regular time of renewal, and regular renewal fees will apply.

That’s according to information received from Municipal Affairs and read during Turner Valley’s council meeting on Dec. 21.

The information said, for legal purposes, the new municipality name and the old municipality name are deemed to be the same.

“For this reason, there is no need for residents of the amalgamated town of Diamond Valley to change their driver's license within 14 days of the effective Jan. 1, 2023 date,” read Coun. John Waring during the meeting.
