"Merry Christmas, chief," Black Diamond Mayor Brendan Kelly said after council voted in favour of the purchase of a new $685,000 fire engine.
Black Diamond council voted to self-fund the purchase for the 2020 Pierce/Maximetal 1500 gpm fire engine in the Jan. 19 meeting.
The funds will come from the fire department's current operating general and capital fire vehicle reserves.
Council added an amendment that will see the department replace funds from the ladder reserve through future operating budget contributions and excess revenues.
With a laugh, fire Chief Jamie Campbell said he'd give mayor and council a ride when they the new piece of equipment comes to town.
"We really appreciate all you do for the community," Kelly said.
