Turner Valley RCMP are looking for answers after a mutilated cat was found in a resident’s back yard.

The dead cat was discovered the morning of Sept. 7 and police are looking for people who may know what happened to the animal.

Turner Valley RCMP Cst. Jeff Mahar said the cat’s owners, who are not the residents of the property the cat was found on, have been contacted.

Although few details are being released as the investigation continues, Mahar doesn’t believe the death was caused by another animal, but he can’t confirm it was caused by a person(s).

“We don’t know at this point,” he said. “We are still inspecting the cause of death and we are still waiting for the animal to be looked at.”

If it was harmed by people, Mahar said the situation will be taken very seriously.

“Anyone that causes any undo suffering to any animal can be charged criminally,” he said.

Mahar said RCMP aren’t concerned the incident will happen to other pets in town.

“As far as we know it is an isolated incident,” he said.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Turner Valley RCMP at 403-933-4262 or report via Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
