Home has significant smoke damage after fire in Diamond Valley

A peace officer noticed the fire on Dec. 11 and called firefighters before helping to free a dog that was inside the house.

A fire broke out in a Diamond Valley home on Monday.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire on Dec. 11 when a peace officer in the area heard the fire alarm and saw smoke inside the residence, Diamond Valley Fire Rescue Chief TJ Moore said.

Nobody was inside at the time of the fire, but the homeowner returned, and with the peace officer, managed to free a dog that was inside the home, Moore said.

Smoke was visible outside when firefighters arrived, and it appears that the fire started between the first and second floors of the house.

“There is significant smoke damage in the house and there is fire damage within the floor structure, between the first and second floor," he said.

Eight firefighters from Diamond Valley Fire Rescue responded. They were on scene for about two hours and were able to save some Christmas presents and personal belongings that were in the house.

Moore said it was fortunate that the fire department was quickly notified and that the fire happened during the day, rather than at night.

“If this happened at nighttime, it could have been a far different outcome,” he said.
