Elves have lost their way in Turner Valley again this holiday season — and those that help them may have some extra Christmas goodies.

Turner Valley launched its third annual Elf Search 2020 on Dec. 2  at and around Millennium Park.

“We invite people to go to Millennium Park, the library, the pool area, the green spaces and they can hunt down the elves,” said Wanda Sinclair, Turner Valley parks and facilities supervisor.

The Town has hidden 18 elves for the 2020 search and all of the Christmas munchkins are outside to make it safer from COVID-19 for those looking for the little guys and gals.

“We have plenty of space for physical distancing and we do have signage up,” Sinclair said. “People have been really good about doing the right thing.”

It’s more than hind-and-seek, it’s also an opportunity to win something for the entire family.

“The Town has put the Elf Search on Facebook page,” said Sinclair. “As you find them, you take a photo with them (and post on the page).”

The photos can also be posted on twitter with #turnervalleyelfsearch

Those who have posted picture of the elves on either page, will have their names entered in a draw for a $100 family prize package.

“It’s nice to have a prize, but for the most part, it’s about people going out and having fun and hunting for them.” Sinclair said. “It’s a good laugh for people and people need a good laugh right now.”

The contest will run until Dec. 23, but the elves will then remain out for the community to enjoy during the holiday season.

There’s also an opportunity to spread some Christmas cheer.

“We decided this year with the Elf Hunt you can pick-up a Christmas star ornament at the town office or you can bring one from home,” Sinclair said. “Then you can hang it up at one of the spruce trees at Millennium Park.

“It’s for people to make a wish on the star and to dress up the Town a little bit.”
