Horse-drawn wagon rides will be part of the festivities at Light Up Diamond Valley.

Light-Up Diamond Valley, an annual community celebration, is set to transform the heart of the Black Diamond community into a vibrant winter wonderland on Saturday, Dec. 2 between 5 and 9 p.m.

This annual event marks the start of the holiday shopping season in the Town of Diamond Valley, with many local businesses along Government Road and Centre Avenue opening their doors to welcome residents with treats, surprises and unique holiday shopping experiences.

Residents of all ages are invited to join the festivities, take part in the holiday spirit, and connect with neighbours and friends as they peruse the attractions.

The town is adorned with festive lights and offers a range of activities, including horse-drawn wagon rides provided by Anchor D Outfitting, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Cassie and Matt McBean of CIR Realty, and visits with Santa at Fuel in the Sheep River Centre.

Other gold sponsors include Spicer’s Apothecary / Pharmasave and MPE Engineering.

Over 30 local businesses will be showcasing their holiday specials and presenting free offerings such as s'mores and marshmallow roasting on outdoor fire pits, hot beverages, hot dogs, snacks and treats, draws with prizes, a candy cane making demonstration, a live nativity scene presentation, a holiday movie night and an array of samples and shopping specials.

In addition to the Light-Up festivities in the Black Diamond community, the High Country SPCA Market will be taking place in the Turner Valley community prior to Light-Up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Flare ‘n Derrick Community Hall.

The event features a selection of locally produced and sourced items and is a major fundraiser for the High Country SPCA in support of its fostering and spay and neuter programs.
