There’s a little something hiding in downtown Turner Valley – 20 little somethings, to be precise.

Elf Peppermint Waffles needs the help of town residents once again to track down 20 of his elf buddies and get them back to the North Pole before Christmas.

They were hidden throughout the core of Turner Valley, from the Dr. Lander Memorial Swimming Pool to Millennium Park, by public works staff.

“We kind of collaborated on a plan to place some little elves all over the parks and the downtown core, just make it fun for families to go out and find the elves,” said Craig Beaton, Turner Valley operations and facilities manager.

This is the second year the elves have been let on the loose in Turner Valley. The search began last year, and took off in a way nobody expected.

“It very quickly became a Facebook success,” said Beaton. “It was just a lucky surprise that everyone loved it so much and we decided to carry on the tradition this year.”

Residents are encouraged to get out and look for the 20 elves, some of which are fairly exposed while others are very well-hidden, he said.

Participants are to take photos of elves when they find them and post them on the Turner Valley Elf Search 2019 event page on Facebook or on Twitter using the hashtag #turnervalleyelfsearch.

A list of locations should be emailed to [email protected], and the entries with the most elves found will be entered into a draw to win a family prize pack valued at $100. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 20.

Beaton said elves have been out since Dec. 2 and it’s been fun to watch people take on the challenge.

“It’s amazing to see,” said Beaton. “You drive by Millennium Park and there’s kids running all over the park looking up the trees, climbing in the gazebo, wandering around and having fun.

“It’s a great event for the kids and families.”
