Turner Valley residents interested in learning more about the men and women running in next month’s byelection can address the candidates at two public sessions before heading to the polls on April 8.

Richard Brotherston, Kathryn McGuire, Greg Pyra, Brenda Smethurst, Jamie Wilkie and Randy Williamson are vying for the vacant chair on Turner Valley’s council after former Coun. Barry Crane resigned to run for mayor following previous mayor Gary Rowntree’s resignation in January.

Crane was awarded the mayor title by acclamation and was sworn in at Turner Valley Town council’s regular meeting on March 4.

The public can ask questions of the candidates at a forum hosted by the Turner Valley Rate Payers Board at the Valley Neighbours Club March 28 at 7 p.m.

The Friends of Turner Valley are inviting the candidates to a meet and greet at the Sheep River Library April 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Candidates will sit at individual tables. Members of the public can sit down and have discussions with any candidates they choose.

Voting takes place April 8 at Turner Valley’s council chambers from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with advance polls on March 26 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Western Wheel will publish profiles on the remaining candidates in its March 27 and April 3 publications.
