Rather than throwing it away, what if a broken household item could be repaired for free?

That is the purpose of an upcoming Repair Café in Black Diamond. Intended for simple repairs to extend the life of an item, and to share repair know-how with others, the Repair Café will be held at the Griffiths Centre on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The Repair Café is all about helping you fix what's broken and keep perfectly usable items out of the landfill,” organizers said in a statement.

“The trouble is that many of us have forgotten that we can repair things ourselves or lack the skills required.”

Volunteers will be on hand to help with the repair, or they can take it on for you.

“You are welcome to bring your item and work on it yourself, with the support and guidance of our volunteers, or you can make an appointment, drop it off and we will let you know when it's ready to be picked up.”

The Griffiths Centre is located at 122 Government Rd.

Appointments are recommended but organizers say they will always find a way to help you out, even if there is a wait list.

Bookings can be made online at https://app.10to8.com/book/kbqrkmnuokyewrytdf/ .
