Pick up a cookie with your coffee and support a local non-profit.

Tim Hortons' Smile Cookie Week begins on Monday, Sept. 19 and goes until Sept. 25. In Black Diamond, proceeds from the sale of Smile Cookies during the week will support the local BGC.

Tammy Blanchard, BGC program supervisor, said this is the first time they have been part of the cookie campaign, and they are "really excited."

The BGC offers subsidized programs and continually needs resources to be able to help families, she said, so money raised will support things like daycare, out-of-school programs and teen night in Black Diamond.

“With the way the economy is right now, we are helping families enormously," she said.

“There's a huge need for our services."

Members of the Black Diamond Fire Department will be at the restaurant to help out on Sept. 24 and 25, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Fire Chief Jaime Campbell said firefighters will be bustling – working behind the counter, doing prep work in the back, and meeting and greeting people as they come in.

Blanchard said the BGC provides financial, emotional and physical support to community families.

She said the organization is at a turning point and is growing rapidly.

“We've got so many more areas and clubs that we're opening to support communities,” she added.

The BGC was formerly known as the Boys and Girls Club. The organization recently changed its name to include the fact the non-profit serves people of all ages, backgrounds and identities.
