WizGolf: “We Focused on the Positive”

Launched in 2019, WizGolf is the ultimate destination for year-round indoor golf. Large HD screens with state-of-the-art technology along with E6 golf technology gives you access to more than 90 golf courses from around the world. One trip to WizGolf gets you swinging your clubs on courses from Hawaii to Mexico. Set up to accommodate COVID-19 restrictions, WizGolf has gone above and beyond with private and semi private rooms and bays with more than enough space for social distancing. Yet it’s not just the outstanding experience that WizGolf is happy to provide patrons. The owners know what it’s like to open and operate a time when restrictions keep changing, and they offer encouragement to other small business owners with this message: don’t lose hope and never give up.

Harry Wi and his son KJ opened WizGolf in July of 2019. KJ, General Manager, says, “We want to make golf more approachable and affordable, especially in Alberta. We know Korea has an incredibly successful indoor golf industry and we felt Canadians could also benefit from being able to golf year-round.”

The Wi’s decision to open in Okotoks rather than in a larger urban centre was no accident. They enjoy the family atmosphere of the small town and thank their patrons for their ongoing support during the pandemic.

Speaking to this, KJ says, “COVID-19 was tough because we had just opened and started growing when the closures hit, but during that time we did not lose hope. We decided to focus on the business so when we opened again, our customers could have an even better experience. We decided to actively pursue growth.”

He continues, “When we opened, we had imported our sensors from Korea, but that tech was limited to Korean culture. Canadian golfers had a hard time getting used to the golf courses and game play, and the program didn’t offer American courses. We looked for something that was suitable for Canadian golfers and that is how we developed the Wiz-I launch monitor.”

The Wiz-I launch monitor reaches speeds of 500fps and includes dual cameras for the most accurate stats across ball flight, launch angle, club speed, ball speed, club path, club angle, etc. Wiz-I is the first Canadian launch monitor approved and registered on E6.

He continues, “Even though the pandemic and restrictions were a drawback, we are happy to have had the time to focus on improving our customer’s experience and to create the Wiz-I monitor. We are proud to offer a safe space for customers to socialize with family or just spend some calm time by yourself, all while enjoying the sport of golf year-round.”

WizGolf is active in the community by supporting a number of non-profit organizations through donations and charity tournaments. They also sponsor young golfers and golf school teams because, as KJ says, “There is a future in Canadian golf. It starts somewhere; why not here?”

He concludes, “Our primary goal right now is to get the Wiz-I sensor out there. We are the only Canadian company that has the celling mounted launch monitor and being local, the Wiz-I is a lot cheaper than other brands while never compromising on quality. Wiz-I is suitable for homes, businesses, and golf course. We also continue to focus on our indoor golf experience, ensuring golf is accessible and affordable in our community, year-round. Times are hard but we learned to never give up. Don’t lose hope. Focus on what you can do and remember, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
