Now is the Time to Join Foothills Energy Co-op’s Solar Club

The Canada Greener Home Grant ends in March 2024. Contact Foothills Energy Co-op now to leverage maximum ROI with its Solar Club program.

As we continue to evolve in our understanding of renewable energy, solar power has proven to be a reliable and sustainable choice. Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the sun, harnessed using various technologies such as photovoltaic (PV) panels to generate electricity. Not only does it help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, but it also offers significant cost savings and benefits to the environment.

Foothills Energy Co-op has taken a big step towards promoting green energy by launching their solar program. Since the Canada Greener Home Grant, a program offering up to $5,000 in grants for homeowners to make energy-efficient upgrades, is set to end in March, now is the time to act for those considering switching to solar energy. By acting now, you can take advantage of this grant to offset some of your initial setup costs while also taking advantage of Foothills Energy’s Solar Club™ Loyalty Program.

The Foothills Energy Co-op Solar Program is designed to empower homeowners to produce their own electricity using solar panels installed on their property. The program offers a unique Solar Rate, which allows members to receive credits for the excess power they contribute back to the grid. This means the more energy your solar panels produce, the lower your energy bill will be. Switching to solar energy can result in significant cost savings over time; the long-term benefits far outweigh the initial investment.

Included in the Solar Club are special rates, flexible plans, and 2% cash back annually on energy imported from the grid. Members of the Club can switch for free (with 10 day’s notice) between the high export rate (30 cents/kWh) for solar micro-generators exporting more electricity to the grid than they are importing, or the low export rate (11.75 cents/kWh) for solar micro-generators importing more electricity from the grid than they are exporting.

What exactly is micro-generation?

Micro-generation involves the small-scale production of electricity utilizing renewable and alternative energy resources. Common sources include solar and wind power, used by individual homeowners, small businesses, and community or municipal buildings to fulfill their electricity requirements.

In 2016, Alberta's Micro-generation Regulation underwent amendments to provide Albertans with more flexibility in their electricity generation. These changes encompassed an increase in the size limit of a micro-generation system from 1 megawatt to 5 megawatts and the allowance for a micro-generating system to service nearby sites. Foothills Energy Co-op offers a wonderful opportunity for homeowners and small businesses to participate in micro-generation, not only saving each homeowner money over time, but actively allowing individuals and businesses to make a tangible difference in eco-friendly ways.

Foothills Energy Co-op's Solar Program offers an excellent opportunity to switch to a sustainable energy source, save on energy costs, and play a part in preserving the environment. With the impending end of the Canada Greener Home Grant, there's no better time than now to make the switch. Join the renewable energy revolution. Contact Foothills Energy Co-op today and discover how you can harness the power of the sun while saving money on energy bills.
