Learn from the Start with Magic Days Preschool

The mission of Magic Days is “to provide all children with a safe and secure learning environment where they can freely explore and express themselves. Our goal is to ensure that our children have enriching learning and appropriate care that is vital to their growth and development.”

Magic Days Preschool has taken over and rebranded Leap n’ Learn, bringing new ideas to the programming and a new look to the facility. Director Marcela Saenz and her son, Andres, are thrilled to offer a service – with a twist – in Okotoks. Among the preschools in the area, Magic Days is the only one to include the option of Spanish lessons.

Marcela started her journey in early childhood education in 2015 both academically and by opening Dias Mágicos Day home. She graduated with honors and went on to achieve several more child certifications so she could “devote myself to the little ones.”

“I love kids!” she says. “I believe they are the new era. Although we took over Leap n’ Learn and made some changes, we have retained the previous teacher and parts of the program. The new programming is more heavily based on gamification. With this concept, children learn while engaged in games and activities, alone or in teams. The games are based around daily routines for individuals, socializing and self care. Basically, they enhance their overall wellbeing and learn life skills while having fun with games.”

Spanish lessons will be offered as an option during the summer.

“We decided to offer Spanish to help fill a gap,” explains Andres. “There are no Spanish immersion programs in this area, and we feel children have better long-term outcomes when they can speak two languages.”

The mission of Magic Days is “to provide all children with a safe and secure learning environment where they can freely explore and express themselves. Our goal is to ensure that our children have enriching learning and appropriate care that is vital to their growth and development.”

With “games as a learning constructor,” the children will express themselves through age-appropriate art projects, cognitive development games based on communication and creativity, activity to keep the body healthy and moving, and social skills to learn more about teamwork and being part of a community. A big part of the program includes story time, as Marcela and Andres feel that storytelling is a powerful tool for building language and cognitive reasoning. Books help us understand people and places different from what we normally see, help us express emotions we are not used to feeling, and bring the world to the classroom, one page at a time. The teacher reads to the children, and age-appropriate books are available during quiet time.

Andres smiles, “When I think about what I love the most about what we do, it’s seeing the way the kids’ minds think. They come up with new stuff every day that makes you smile. They are always learning by asking lots of questions.”

Magic Days is currently renovating the facility to give it a vibrant, more colourful look and plans are underway for a new playground on site.

An open house will take place on June 11 and 18 from 10 am to 1 pm.

“Everyone is invited to the open house to learn about our school, programs, the Spanish class and to meet the teacher,” says Marcela. “We look forward to seeing you there.”
