During International Women’s Month, OkotoksTODAY is celebrating women that are making a difference in our local business and community landscapes. Meet Amy Flemmer, of Flemmer Real Estate and Century 21 Foothills.

Amy Flemmer obtained her real estate licence in 2012.

“I had a wonderful start to my career with the most incredible women’s team, the Tanya Eklund Group in Calgary,” says Flemmer. “When I married Drew in 2019, I moved to Okotoks and it only made sense to team up with Ryck and Drew. Ryck started Flemmer Real Estate in 1992 and built it up to be one of the most recognized real estate brands in Okotoks. Working with family has been such a treat.”

The Realtors at Flemmer Real Estate live and work in Okotoks, giving them incredible insights into the region – insights they use to ensure each client’s needs are met with outstanding knowledge and service.

In addition to experience and education, Flemmer says, “Persistence, grit and a true desire to help others with their real estate goals have been some of the factors contributing to my success. I also believe that being part of a team has had a great impact, helping me learn and grow as an agent.”

She isn’t afraid to be honest about one of her work’s challenging aspects.

“Working alongside my husband is one of the most incredible experiences, but let's get real, as a spouse there are some days when it can be a challenge! We work together, live together and spend almost 24/7 together. There really might be something to the saying ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder,’” she laughs.

Women in business often find themselves navigating relationships alongside careers, but that is just part of what makes a woman a formidable force in the field.

Flemmer adds, “Being a woman in business is exciting! Waking up in the morning and being able to make my own decisions about how my day is going to go is freeing. I find that I help clients in a different way than our male counterparts; our minds work differently. Connecting with my clients is one of my favourite aspects about this business.”

She is keen to help other female Realtors make connections too.

“Six years ago, I saw a need for women in real estate to connect. This can be a lonely job in many ways and fellow Realtors are some of the only ones who understand what daily life is really like. Another real estate agent and I created a group for women to gather and discuss business.”

She is just as active in the community as she is in the industry. Alongside Flemmer Real Estate and Century 21 Foothills, she is proud to help support many charitable interests, including Foothills Country Hospice Society, Rowan House Society, Narrow Road Home and Easter Seals Camp Horizon.

Flemmer is excited about the many personal and professional possibilities the future has in store.

“As local experts, we want to continue to grow our team and our brand here in Okotoks. We’re working towards building something that can grow even beyond our family. We know our experience and expertise can benefit Realtors and clients alike, and we continue to become more involved in our community as we look to improve this town for everyone.”
