Cactus Club Salon & Spa Helps You Look and Feel Your Best

Mandy Best, Owner and Master Stylist at Cactus Club Salon & Spa, knows firsthand how life can change – and how resiliency, positivity, and entrepreneurial agility are the keys to providing outstanding client experience and success in business.

Originally, Mandy had her eyes set on a law degree, and trained as a stylist so she could work evenings and weekends to pay for school. Life had other plans in store, as she loved being a stylist and began a family. After a successful career in Calgary, she joined Cactus Club Salon & Spa in 2008 after her maternity leave. In 2010, she was asked to buy the salon, and calls it, “the best decision I have ever made.” Mandy says, “I get to work in an industry I love, manage an incredibly talented team and challenge myself to learn new things every day.”

“From 2010 to the Pandemic, we grew the business from 22 to 45 employees and significantly increased our service offerings,” Mandy continues. “Next March will mark our 30th anniversary, and although so much has changed this year, I am proud of the fact that so many clients have said how safe and comfortable they feel with all the protocols we’ve put in place.”

Although their normal cleaning routine pre-COVID was above and beyond AHS regulations, Cactus (the Salon & Spa) have gone even further to ensure the comfort and safety of clients and staff. Some of the measures include: a pre-screening questionnaire, acrylic barriers, a new reception desk in the spa to reduce interactions, social distancing, staggered appointments, mandatory masks and hand washing stations.

Mandy has always believed that the true value of Cactus’ services goes far beyond the services.

“People who work in the personal care industry know how important human connection and personal touch are, and what a privilege it is to earn that trust. Some experts would argue that one-on-one attention and touch are often more therapeutic than the service itself. Our health and happiness improve when we take care of ourselves and we look and feel great. It’s such an honour to be able to watch our clients leave feeling so happy. I believe there’s nothing better than carving out some personal time to relax and recharge,” Mandy says.

To best serve clients, Mandy and her team remain on the cutting edge of their industry through ongoing training with world-class educators and platform artists.

“On any given day, the stylists are creating the most beautiful balayage colour services and perming an entire hockey team the next!” she laughs. “And because the health of our staff and clients is our number one priority, we only partner with Brands that provide healthy, environmentally responsible products; such as Canadian-owned Oligo Professionnel. Its Calura colour line is Ammonia and PPD Free.”

Massage is one of the busiest services in the spa and our talented team of Registered Massage Therapists offer everything from Pre-Natal to Hot Stone, Therapeutic, Relaxation and Couples massages,” says Mandy. This means they’re recognized by all major benefit providers. Last year, the Spa also made a big jump into medical aesthetics with the addition of a state-of-the-art Sharplight laser platform, and a Medical Injector.

“It was really a natural evolution for the spa to be able to offer our clients the complete spectrum: from traditional facials, waxing, manicures and pedicures, to leading edge Dermalogica skin care products, to laser treatments for everything from hair removal, to acne, pigmentation reduction, skin tightening, body sculpting and tattoo removal,” says Mandy. “Now we have the best talent and tools to help clients protect their skin even more and age gracefully with the benefits of Botox, Dermal Fillers, Vampire Facelifts and Belkyra.”
