We’re fortunate in Alberta to have a long list of incredible family-friendly campgrounds to choose among. Each one has something different to offer, but they all share a piece of the beautiful Alberta landscape.

Here are three family-friendly campgrounds that are worth adding to your summer travels.

Old MacDonald’s Resort

Old MacDonald’s Resort is packed full of incredibly fun activities and amenities. They offer daily hayrides, mini golf, train rides, a merry-go-round ride, bike and cart rentals, an arcade, playgrounds and even a theatre. There is also a restaurant, a general store, a candy store, and an ice cream stand right inside the campground. For water lovers, the resort boasts a sandy beach and convenient boat launch. 

There are a variety of campsites available including serviced, partially serviced and un-serviced sites that are priced depending on the distance from the lake. Prices range from $33/night for an un-serviced site farthest from the beach to $58/night for a fully serviced site. Old MacDonald’s Resort also offers very popular powered group sites.

Mount Kidd RV Park

Mount Kidd RV Park is located in beautiful Kananaskis Country nestled in the Rocky Mountains. This RV park is a popular mountain campground especially for families with kids of all ages. Your family can have fun playing horseshoes and tennis, checking out the wading pool, or challenging each other in the arcade. Enjoy an ice cream from the camp store on a hot day.

Mount Kidd RV Park offers 229 year-round campsites that range from no hook-ups in the un-serviced tent loop to fully serviced sites. Prices range from $36.15 to $53.40. There is a $12 booking fee added to each reservation. To book your spot, visit them online or call the RV park at (403) 591-7700.

Dinosaur Trail RV Resort & Cabins

One of the best places in the province to visit with your family is definitely Drumheller, and one of the best places to camp is at the Dinosaur Trail RV Resort & Cabins. This campground is located alongside the Red Deer River and offers a whole slew of activities including a heated pool, horseshoe pitch, canoe and raft rentals, a dinosaur fossil hunt, laundromat, general store and playground.

The town of Drumheller is a great place for a family holiday. Kids love to visit the world’s largest dinosaur in the middle of town. The Royal Tyrell Museum is a spectacular destination for visitors of all ages and taking a tour of the historic East Coulee Coal Mines is an interesting activity.
