Two alleged thieves weren’t able to outrun the law last Tuesday after fleeing Calgary at high speed. Okotoks RCMP were able to nab the suspects with the help of Calgary Police and HAWCS on May 8 after they sped away from Calgary. They allegedly drove through Okotoks and then rural properties at high speed in a stolen vehicle before dumping the vehicle, and stealing a second, damaging fences and other property. The RCMP, following information from Calgary police and HAWCS, located the vehicle and elected to deploy a spike belt on 322 Avenue East, putting an end to the rampage without having to pursue the vehicle. Two suspects were arrested without incident. “It was a collaborative effort amongst us, CPS and HAWCS,” said Cpl. Cory Forsyth, Operations NCO for Okotoks RCMP. “It worked out well and once again, we arrested some offenders without issue, harm to the public, or police.” Blake MacPherson, 27, is charged with break and enter, possession of property under $5,000, theft of truck, possession of break in tools, mischief over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with recognizance, and possession of counterfeit currency. Maxime Phillipe, 32, has been charged with break and enter, possession of property under $5,000, theft of truck, possession of break in tools, mischief over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with recognizance, and possession of counterfeit currency. Both suspects have been remanded into custody pending bail hearing.
