The RCMP has laid a laundry list of charges after two people led them on a chase throughout the Foothills Tuesday night.

According to a press release sent out on Aug. 29, High River RCMP received a report on Aug. 27 of a stolen SUV driving dangerously towards their region.

Calgary Police's HAWCS helicopter was called to assist as members intercepted the vehicle.

Okotoks RCMP were able to spike belt the SUV, but that didn't stop it from continuing to flee.

At that point, members from High River, Okotoks, Nanton, and Strathmore joined in the pursuit and initiated two more spike belts.

Now on rims, the vehicle continued to flee until it eventually lost control and came to a stop in a field east of Aldersyde.

The driver, Gregory Sigmunder Whitford, 39, of no fixed address, is charged with:

  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • flight from police
  • possession of break-in instruments
  • possession of property obtained by crime
  • driving uninsured motor vehicle
  • driving while unauthorized
  • displaying an unauthorized license plate
  • failing to comply with a recognizance

The passenger, Sarah Jane Turner Stewart, 20, of Calgary is charged with:

  • flight from police
  • two counts of possession of property obtained by crime
  • possession of  break-in instruments
  • identity theft
  • two counts of a forged document
  • possession of an identity document
  • two counts of possession of a fake operators license

Police opposed Whitford's release and he is being held for a bail hearing.

Turner Stewart was released on recognizance and will appear in Okotoks Provincial Court.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be laid.
