Okotoks RCMP was able to nab two theft suspects shortly after the act Sunday evening.

Mounties were patrolling near Canadian Tire around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 15 when they were flagged down by a victim who had his catalytic converter cut off and stolen while his vehicle was parked.

The victim offered the description of a white Chevrolet truck, and the RCMP began searching for the vehicle, locating one that matched the description nearby.

Both occupants were arrested and a search of the vehicle yielded catalytic converters, power tools, and a small amount of suspected cocaine.

"Due to the quick response of the Okotoks RCMP members, the stolen property was recovered and this theft was solved," said Okotoks RCMP Staff Sgt. Zane Semaniuk.

Police charged Ryan McLaren, 38, of Okotoks and Paul Joseph Bertoli, 38, of Calgary with several offences, including possession of property under $5,000, possession of break in instruments, theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, and possession of a controlled substance.

Both men were released with conditions after a judicial hearing and are scheduled to appear at Okotoks Provincial Court on Jan. 17.
