Hunting incident near Okotoks sends one to hospital

One man has been stabilized in hospital after a hunting accident near Davisburg on Dec. 15.

According to a press release from the RCMP, officers from Turner Valley, High River, and Okotoks responded just after 9 a.m. to a call that a hunter had been shot by the banks of the Bow River north of Dunbow Road near 80 Street E.

STARS was called to airlift a man with a serious injury from a gunshot wound. He remains in hospital in critical, but stable condition. Foothills County Fire Department  and Alberta EMS also responded.

Police took another 62-year-old male from Calgary, who was also allegedly hunting, into custody at the scene and have charged him with careless use of a firearm.

He has been released and is scheduled to appear in Okotoks Provincial Court on Feb. 5, 2021.

In a phone call on Dec. 16, RCMP Cpl. Tammy Keibel said it is believed the two were not known to each other, but both are believed to have been hunting. She added it is not believed to be a targeted incident at this time.

The name of the accused has not yet been released as the formal charge has not been sworn.
