After a marathon debate on Monday it should not be a surprise this Okotoks council made its best effort to not make a decision on water.
As expected, council defeated a motion to approve a water pipeline to Calgary, however, what transpired afterwards was indicative of the problems facing this council.
On Monday Coun. Matt Rockley proposed a motion to approve a pipeline to Calgary, but it was defeated 5-2.
It was the right decision by council because it had three years to secure a long-term water solution for Okotoks, but failed to do so.
Okotoks council has surveyed, studied and researched the issue ad nauseam and yet still refuses to make a decision.
Council’s chance to make good on their previous election promises to address Okotoks’ water resources has past. It again avoided taking a stand successfully passing this issue on to a new council, which is becoming an election tradition for Okotoks.
Once again on Monday some councillors proved their inability to take a stand on water.
After Rockley’s motion was defeated, council spent another hour debating additional vague motions on Okotoks’ water future.
The result, after lengthy debate, was another rudderless motion outlining another study on yet more options for a undecided water solution.
The only thing they accomplished on Monday was proving their knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order.
