Parents and students need to be patient when it comes to classroom space in High River.
Last week the provincial government announced portables intended for displaced students in High River will not be in place in time for the start of the school year.
As a result, students in Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools (CRCS) will have the start of their school year delayed by at least a week.
CRCS administration has had to find alternatives including leasing the Highwood Memorial Centre in High River for the next month. The community centre will be used as classroom space until the portables are in place.
High River parents are looking for someone to blame for the delay in the delivery of the portables.
CRCS, High River council and the provincial government have been the target of parents concerned with the delay.
However, there is really no one to blame.
The school division acted quickly to accommodate displaced students as best they could considering the lack of suitable space
High River council has little voice in the workings of the school division, and Alberta Education ordered about 60 portables right after the flood knowing Alberta schools would be impacted.
This is an unprecedented disaster and whether its the flood task force or portable manufacturers, everyone is doing their best to meet their commitments.
It will be late, but the school bell will ring.
