It’s been a busy month on the campaign trail in the Foothills.

With more than 80 candidates across the region in municipalities and school boards, Foothills, residents have some big decisions to make on Monday.

There are 18 running for council and two for mayor in Okotoks; eight for council and two for mayor in Black Diamond; 12 council candidates and three mayoral hopefuls in Turner Valley; four candidates in Longview; the MD of Foothills has 12 candidates across five of its seven divisions, and the Foothills School Board ballots see nine candidates in Okotoks, six in the Cayley area and two in the Black Diamond region.

A number of candidate forums, profiles, and evenings of door-knocking have gone into the past four weeks for candidates across the board.

Now it’s up to the residents.

There are major issues in each community, from water to development, taxes to amalgamation, affordable housing to economic development.

All eligible citizens need to take the time and exercise their democratic rights on Monday.

Voter turnout has been waning at all levels of government election in recent years. With so much at stake for the future of the Foothills region and its communities, voter apathy needs to be overcome.

Get out and vote on Oct. 16.
