Our Okotoks Dawgs baseball team finished the season in second place overall. Medicine Hat are the regular season champions. Now the playoffs begin.

My company has come and gone and what a great time we had with the “Do you remembers.” One of my guests and I took a drive through High River and, although it has been a month, it still makes your heart ache to see the destruction.

The Alexia and Kiarra Foundation along with Okotoks On Deck-NSA Canada will be holding a fundraising evening this Saturday, July 27 at Okotoks On Deck.

For those who have volunteered to work our casino in October, if you haven’t filled out the worker application form, give Bev a call (403-933-4582) and make arrangements to do so. This is an exciting week for me.

It is difficult to put into words the generousity we are seeing from our community as our neighbours try and recover from the devastation of the June flood.

I’m talking, of course, about its seizure of firearms from evacuated High River homes. That the seizures came during a state of emergency situation doesn’t matter as much and the legality of the seizure isn’t the main question.

The timing could not have been better as this will give a community flooded with emotion a reason to rejoice. On Sunday High River’s Jason Glass won his first Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby after seven trips to the final.

What a weekend! If you enjoy following sports and cheer for the same teams as me you are one happy camper today. The Okotoks Dawgs won two extra inning games against the Medicine Hat Mavericks over the weekend at Seaman Stadium.

I’m so happy that our two little towns are once more linked. I wonder if our combined tragedies will bring us to a better understanding of how much we really need each other.

It is at times likes this I feel the need to wrap my arms around the little town of High River. You see my family has been a part of this town since its first days.
