The other day my phone rang and on the other end was Lindie Klippenstein calling to remind me that I was just about to celebrate 25 years as the publisher of the Wheel. Bruce and Lindie sold the Wheel to me in 1989.

Great things happen when citizens, corporations, and governments are motivated by a big dream, a lofty goal, a challenge to achieve something that’s never done before.

I crossed a big item off my bucket list last week. My girlfriend and I returned from a three-week tour of Western Europe, visiting six cities and four countries.

Some events last week provided me some food for thought. There were some subtle reminders that I need to cut back on my food and get out there and exercise.

Mark Sunday, April 27 down on your calendar. That is the day we are going to take our bowling teams down to Millennium Lanes in Okotoks and help raise a few bucks for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

What scares you most? What is your deepest fear? As for me, I have a few. Like, right now, I am stuck at page 23 of Doris Lessing’s novel, “The Cleft,” because early on she warns that something scary and very unpleasant will happen at page 29.

Get me off this crazy roller-coaster. I had so much optimism at the start of the season, even when others didn’t. Alas, I’m going to have to watch the Oilers pack up and sit out of another playoff run. And, I mean Edmonton Oilers, not Okotoks.

It’s going to be a glorious weekend for Okotoks basketball as all four high school basketball teams are off to provincials. No matter how they do, I won’t be criticizing any of the coaches for their clock management.

You win some and you lose some. Okotoks hockey fans were on both sides of that saying last week. The Jr. A Oilers season came to an end when the lost to the Olds Grizzlys on March 12.
