On New Year’s Day my family and I went out tobogganing for the afternoon. It’s great to get bundled up in winter gear and spend some time outside in the snow. I always feel alive, and uniquely Canadian when I’m having fun outdoors during winter.

T’is the season, to stop eating chocolate and drinking eggnog as if they were the staples of the Canada Food Guide. Every January, I vow to eat better.

Our floor curling turkey shoot was so much fun. Winners were: Glenn Davis, Charis Cooper, Linda Usselman and Marion Kennedy. Lunch was awesome. Floor curling resumes on Jan. 4.

Breathe in, breathe out. Focus on your breath and its sequence of inhalation and exhalation. Many use this focus in their practice of yoga or meditation.

I don’t know if you are the same way but the good things, and the bad things that happen around Christmas time tend to have a more profound effect than if they happened at any other time of the year.

There is nothing like spending the holidays with children. The excitement and the sparkle in their eyes is all anybody really needs on Christmas morning. Or afternoon, as it happened to be for my family this year.

The heading is a bit of a misnomer as there is very little news from the Valley Neighbours this week. The only ongoing activity is bridge, I like to think bridge never quits. However, all of our activities will be back on track next week.

As I reflect back on the year we had I believe that the overarching theme of 2015 is that it was a year of change.

We had our last duplicate session for 2015 on Saturday and we are all enjoying it very much. We will begin again on Jan. 9. The garden club’s final meeting of the year was in the form of a mini Christmas celebration.
