Wishing all a Merry Christmas

I don’t know if you are the same way but the good things, and the bad things that happen around Christmas time tend to have a more profound effect than if they happened at any other time of the year.

I don’t know if you are the same way but the good things, and the bad things that happen around Christmas time tend to have a more profound effect than if they happened at any other time of the year.

About twenty years ago, my sister Paula and I took the family dog Rocky out for a big walk on Christmas Eve. We were on a country road just outside of town and we let Rocky off leash to explore the area around us.

We only encountered one car during the entire walk and, Murphy’s Law, Rocky ran in front of it and was struck by the car.

We didn’t even see where Rocky went but he must have taken off running after he was hit. We couldn’t find him anywhere. We searched, and we searched.

We went and got more people to help us look for him but after searching well into the night and into the early Christmas morning hours, we gave up. We all went to our beds with heavy hearts that night.

I will never forget how relieved and happy I was the next morning to hear my Mom yelling, “It’s a Christmas miracle! Rocky came home!!”

Somehow he found his way back and was sitting on our front doorstep that morning. He had a few scrapes and bruises but all in all he was ok and we were so happy to pamper him back to a full recovery.

This year I am incredibly thankful for my family, my friends and the amazing community that I am a part of.

I often feel extremely fortunate for the wonderful life that I live and for the amazing people in my life.

Thank you for sticking with me these first few months as the new publisher here at the Western Wheel.

I had big shoes to fill when my Dad retired and I have done my best to keep the quality of the newspapers at the same level.

Thank you to all of the Western Wheel employees for keeping the Wheel turning with me. It has been fun, exciting and I feel even more connected with our community than ever before.

Thank you and Merry Christmas!
