What is your current location?

This might be common knowledge to most but I was shocked to learn this. Apparently, when you have a work cell phone, it is common practice for your employer to have Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking software installed on the phone.

Apparently, when you have a work cell phone, it is common practice for your employer to have Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking software installed on the phone.

I might be a little old school but I always thought that tracking devices were something worn around the ankle and reserved for criminals out on parole.

Sure, I can see the benefit for the employer. If the phone gets lost or stolen you are able to locate it but does that really justify the intrusion into your personal life?

Lots of people carry their work cell phones all of the time. They take it on vacation, they take it to the gym, they take it when out on a date.

Call me crazy but the ability to know where someone is at any given moment is very personal and almost creepy.

What is an employee to do? You are required to carry the cell phone for your job and the tracking software is mandatory. Really you have no choice but to accept this intrusion upon your privacy and personal freedom.

It just doesn’t feel right to me.

The Taste of Okotoks event is July 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on McRae Street and North Railway Street will be closed for vehicle traffic from Centre Avenue down to the Okotoks Art Gallery at Lineham Avenue.

The street will be full with food samples from 20 local restaurants and over 100 Market Square vendors.

There will be live entertainment at the Okotoks Art Gallery and at the Olde Towne Plaza. The Okotoks Art Gallery will also have a children’s area with bouncy castles, trampolines and chalk art. The weather forecast looks great and I’m looking forward to having some fun in downtown Okotoks this weekend.

The Foothills Highland Games are coming up on Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Foothills Composite High School.

I’ve attended the Foothills Highland Games a few times now and it is such a cool event.

One of the things that I love about the Highland Games is that it’s a unique experience and quite different from any other event held in Okotoks. The Scottish sporting events and dancing are always spectacular to watch.

The party at the end of the day is called a Ceilidh featuring live music by Fraid Knot and the most active dance floor to be found in Okotoks any day of the year.
