What a weekend that was...

There was plenty of opportunity to wear yourself out this past weekend with so much activity going on. From the breakfast downtown on Saturday morning to the final pitch on Sunday afternoon it was non stop fun.

From the breakfast downtown on Saturday morning to the final pitch on Sunday afternoon it was non stop fun.

A great crowd took in the parade on Saturday. It is a tough parade route and as the event gets larger it becomes more difficult to fit it into the route. In time we will either need to limit the entries or find a different route. Oh well, it is all fun and it was a great parade. There was plenty going on after the parade and late into the night for all ages.

Sunday was Father’s Day and again plenty to take in. The Wheel helped promote the Prostate Awareness Day at the Dawgs game. The Man Van was in attendance and approximately 80 men had a PSA blood test done. There were plenty of fathers in attendance and the final count at the gate was 4,008 in the park. It was a game full of offence with a final score of 12-8 for the Okotoks Dawgs over the Edmonton Prospects. Usually Canada Day is the largest crowd of the season so we will just have to wait and see if they can surpass the Father’s Day crowd.

At a banquet on Friday night to raise funds for the indoor fieldhouse the first four inductees into the Okotoks Hall of Fame were announced.

Congratulations to Ray Watrin, “Cowboy” Bill Flett, Brad Banister and Tracie Ward. Check out this issue for a write up on the event.

Michael “Pinball” Clemons was the guest speaker and gave an energetic address standing on chairs and challenging the crowd to give it their all.

The weekend also included the 24-hour soccer-thon which raised more than $60,000 for the fieldhouse. Hundreds of people participated in the event which was a smashing success.

Congrats to all the organizers and to those who participated — especially those who played through the night.

By the sounds of the weather forecast this week we will not need to spend much time watering the garden!

Enjoy some downtime.
