Valley Neighbours' Club news

The swans are on their northerly migration and, as usual, have made a brief stop at Fordville Lakes. I so look forward to them each year. My pair of crossbills has turned into a flock of 20 or more.

My pair of crossbills has turned into a flock of 20 or more. I'd really like to know if they might nest here but according to my bird book their nesting habits are fairly erratic. I've seen bluebirds at several of the nest boxes and the swallows are checking out my bluebird nest box.

If anyone is splitting or digging up perennials, the garden club would be very happy to have them for their annual plant sale on June 1. Call Bea at 403-933-7131, or they may be dropped off at VNC on May 31 any time after 4 p.m. or just leave them at the gate to the courtyard. The garden club will meet at VNC at 1:30 p.m. on May 9 to go on a tour of the Spirit Hills Winery. This sounds like a good time.

Our line dance wind-up will follow dancing on May 9. Anyone who has danced with us this year and their significant other is welcome to join us. We dance from 10 a.m. to noon with lunch to follow.

Kudos to the river and highway clean up volunteers and also to Volker Stevin. I saw their trucks everywhere on Saturday picking up the many bags of garbage along the highways.
