In celebration of the recent birth of Prince George of Cambridge, third in line to the British throne, the Okotoks Public Library is hosting a “Prince & Princess for the Day” party Thursday, Oct. 17. The entire community is invited to stop in that day and be part of this regal event.

Library staff will be wearing their crowns, tiaras, ball gowns and suits of armour as they celebrate the birth of the newest member of the Mountbatten-Windsor clan. Book displays, prize raffles, a fairytale story time and an afternoon tea will all be part of the day’s excitement.

Parents are invited to bring their children dressed as knights, princes and princesses to the library at 10 a.m. to listen to some of the most popular fairytales and learn some royal songs and rhymes. Then from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. a cordial invitation to a Royal Tea is extended to all local residents in honour of Prince George’s birth and upcoming christening (scheduled for Oct. 23 in the Chapel Royal at St. James Palace).

Fine teas will be brewed in delicate china teapots and served in ornate china cups. Finger sandwiches – made with bread generously donated by Cobb Breads – and petite desserts will also be shared. Cost of attending the tea is $2 per person, and everyone is welcome to wear their Sunday best, including hats, gloves, garden dresses and fascinators.

Tickets for prizes donated by the Cactus Club Salon & Spa, Monkey Mountain Toys, and Finishing Touches can also be purchased as the library raises funds to replace some of its furnishings. For more information about the event, check out the library’s website at www.okotokslibrary.ca or call 403-938-2220.
