Still plenty of work to do at home

More than a month ago we started packing for a move to our new home and in the process we purged.

More than a month ago we started packing for a move to our new home and in the process we purged.

It was an opportunity to clear out those dusty boxes of who knows what, bins of pathetic knick-knacks and bags of clothes not old enough to be vintage and too new to be anything but out of style.

On Monday, after six weeks in the infamous trailer, we finally started moving in to our new Okotoks home.

Excitement was not even the word when we walked in and toured our wonderful house.

After the papers were signed and the moving began our jubilation quickly turned to exhaustion and confusion.

I truly believed we had rid ourselves of the unwanted and excess.

Perhaps living the minimalist trailer lifestyle changed my priorities, but I quickly discovered while unpacking we still have too much stuff.

In less than an hour my clean garage was a mish mash of boxes, tools, lamps and those stupid over-sized vases full of old branches.

Seriously, why am I carrying in a heavy box labelled “Junk Drawer”?

If it is junk why do we keep it, let alone pack it to simply dump out and create another cluttered mess. I do not feel like a new homeowner as much as I feel like a hoarder.

My new neighbours must be wondering who the hillbillies are who moved in. (The porta-pottie on my front yard does not help our image).

I am looking forward to our housewarming.

“Thanks for coming, do not forget your loot bag. Why yes, that is a breadmaker. Enjoy.”
